Lenten Two-Part Series: “What Are We That You Are Mindful of Us?”
Please join us for a two-part Lenten series on our human role in God’s creation, Wednesday, February 28 and Wednesday, March 7, at 7:30 p.m. in the Parish Center. In light of Pope Francis’s Laudato Si’: Care for our Common Home, we will reflect on how Genesis 1 portrays creation as blessed and sanctified by God’s design, activity, and presence. This opening chapter of our Scriptures also presents human beings as given a special role. In what ways does God call us all to uphold the sacredness of the created order?
In Part 1 (February 28) Kathy Hayes, Professor Emerita of Scripture at St. Joseph Seminary/Seminary of the Immaculate Conception will speak about the essential role of human beings in the continuance of creation in Genesis 1. In Part 2 (March 7), Katherine Aubrecht, Associate Professor of Chemistry at Stony Brook, will look at the need for protecting our environment from a scientific angle. She will speak about sustainability, with a focus on the development of biodegradable and bio-renewable alternatives to synthetic materials. Both talks will be held in the Parish Center.
